An Integrative Counsellor's Approach to Your well-being

Joanne de la Chapelle, an integrative counsellor providing therapy and online counselling sessions.

Hello, I'm Joanne!

My path as an integrative counsellor

My own journey has shaped the way I understand the importance of being genuinely heard and accepted.

I know that life can bring experiences, that change how we see ourselves, our relationships and the world around us. These experiences can sometimes leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from ourselves.

I don’t believe that difficult experiences define who we are. I believe that, with the right support and a safe therapeutic relationship, there can be space to understand our experiences, reconnect with ourselves and find a way forward.

As an integrative counsellor, i bring warmth, curiosity and openness to my work, while respecting that everyone's story is different.

My approach

I believe that you are the expert in your own life. Rather than telling you what you should do, I work alongside you to help you explore the experiences, understand yourself more deeply and consider what might feel right for you.My approach is integrative, drawing on person-centred therapy, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I am also informed by Petruska Clarkson's Five Relationship Model. For me, counselling isn't about trying to change who you are. It is about creating a relationship where you can feel safe enough to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences honestly, without judgement.

I will meet you where you are and work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

My training and professional development

I am a CPCAB Level 4 Therapeutic Practitioner Counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Alongside my private practice, I volunteer as a counsellor for BYHP in Banbury,

supporting both young people and adults.

I am committed to continuing my professional development and deepening my understanding of different therapeutic approaches so that I can continue to develop as a counsellor.

My practice is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework and by the importance of working safely, ethically and within my

level of competence.

Who i work with

I welcome adults from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. In addition to my clinical practice.

I aim to provide an inclusive and accepting space and welcome LGBTQ+ clients and neurodivergent clients.

You don’t have to have a particular diagnosis or know exactly what is wrong before coming to counselling. Sometimes you may simply feel that you are struggling, stuck or ready for something to change.

What to expect from me

I will listen without judgement.

I will be curious about your experience rather than making assumptions about you.

I will respect your individuality, your values and your choices.

Most importantly, I will work with you as a person rather than seeing you simply as a problem to be fixed.

Whether we meet online or through walk-and-talk therapy in Oxford, my hope is that counselling can become a space where you feel able to be yourself, explore what matters to you and begin to understand your experiences in a different way.

If you are considering counselling

You don’t need to know exactly what you want from counselling before you get in touch.

I offer a free 20-minute introductory conversation so that we can talk about what you’re looking for, answer any questions you may have and see whether working together feels right for you.

There is no obligation to continue.

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When i look at a sunset, i don't find myself saying, soften the orange a bit on the right-hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. i watch with awe as it unfolds.

- Carl Rogers.

Therapy with me is collaborative, gentle and paced around what feels manageable for you. I offer a supportive, nurturing space where we move at a pace that feels comfortable and safe for you. You are welcome to read more about my therapeutic approach or reach out for a quiet, introductory chat to see how we might work together.
